Uses for Leftover Wallpaper
We all tend to think of wallpaper in terms of its original use: as a covering for our walls. But there are some pretty unusual uses that people have come up with for this potentially stylish and artistic accessory.
- You can save a wild amount of money using wallpaper of your choice as an alternative gift wrapping. You may choose to use your leftover wallpaper, or you can buy a few rolls of your favorite for all-purpose gift wrap.
- Give your notebooks an individual look by covering them with leftover wallpaper. You can also cover a child’s school books with wallpaper (but please, make it appropriate to the child’s gender and age).
- Wallpaper can turn an inexpensive screen into a fabulous home accessory that will enhance your home.
- Think about covering a set of inexpensive hat boxes with a beautiful wallpaper design for a delightful storage idea.
- An inexpensive journal can take on star status with a wrapping of wallpaper–and you will have a journal that is uniquely yours.
- Pick a plain, pale-colored wallpaper, or at any rate one that coordinates with your room, to create an interactive area in your home. Use a market to create divisions and main titles, then cover the whole in clear vinyl for a washable and therefore reusable surface. This could be a family calendar, or a huge post it note, where you can all contribute thoughts and messages.
- Turn that cheap wall clock into an expensive-looking accessory: Kitchen clocks take on a completely new look when you unscrew the back and cover the back panel with a piece of brightly covered wallpaper.
- Create a room divider and cover it up with wallpaper or a wallpaper mural.
- Paper the panels of a closet, armoire or cabinet. You could also paper the panels of kitchen cabinets for a striking effect.
- A new lampshade made from wallpaper scraps can give new life to an old lamp.
- Instead of buying expensive shelf or drawer lining paper, use wallpaper for an individual look that costs a fraction of the price.
- Carefully cut and stick two pieces of wallpaper together (right side out) and have the result laminated and you have stylish placements that match your room for pennies.
- Instead of buying expensive floral boxes for storage, why not cover some large shoboxes with your favorite wallpaper for a cut-price solution for storing photos, cards, and keepsakes.
- Cover a number of cereal containers with wallpaper and you have a set of stylish containers/paper holders for your home or office.
- Update your kitchen cabinets: give them a totally new look by covering them with grasscloth.
- If you have a bedside table, or occasional table that has seen better days, you can spruce it up in less than an hour by cutting some wallpaper to size (to fit the table top exactly), putting it in place, and then covering it with a piece of glass that has been cut to size.
- A selection of old tin cans can be reinvented as a stylish set of containers for your office desk, kitchen counter, or even your bedroom or bathroom if you choose just the right piece of wallpaper!
- Give your wedding invitations, gift cards, or other cards a spectacular look by making envelopes out of wallpaper. You can get the template by carefully pulling apart the existing envelope. This can be great fun and it’s an easy way to get noticed.
